On November 25, 2011, I visited Skateistan as part of a Danish ministerial visit to Afghanistan. It was a true joy to see the children; boys and girls alike, skate, laugh and have fun together. Skateistan is Afghanistan’s (and the world’s) first co-educational skateboarding school. The school engages urban and internally-displaced youth in Afghanistan through skateboarding, and provides them with new opportunities in cross-cultural interaction, education, and personal empowerment programs.
